Bacteriophage ecology

Phage ecology is the interaction of phages with their environment, whether biotic (living) or abiotic (not living).

Phage ecology may be differentiated, variously, into phage...

  1. Organismal ecology
  2. Population ecology
  3. Community ecology
  4. Ecosystem ecology
  5. Evolutionary ecology
  6. Environmental microbiology

There are significant overlaps between considerations of phage environmental microbiology and phage ecology, with the former more concerned with understanding the real-world "behavior" of microorganisms while the latter is more concerned with identifying general ecological principles as they apply to phages or to other organisms.

At the moment the phage ecology entry on Wikipedia is outstanding so please see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phage_ecology for additional information.
