Bacteriophage population ecology

Population ecology is the study of the interactions between members of the same species.

With phages these interactions fall into three basic categories...

1. Exploitative (or indirect) competition for resources
   
2. Antagonistic interactions found upon coinfetion or coadsorption to the same bacterium
   
3. Recombination/sex between coinfecting phages

Note that similar interactions can also occur between heterologous phages, i.e., ones which are not members of the same species.
