Conjugative transposons

Conjugative transposons (CTns) are a type of mobile genetic element within bacteria that can be responsible for the transfer of genomic islands.

"One sequence signature that seems to identify many, it not all conjugative and mobilizable transposons, is their integrase protein. An integrase gene in the lambda integrase family that is not accompanied by capsid and tail-fiber genes might be attached to a conjugative or mobilizable transposon." (p. 140, Salyers et al., 2004)
